Tundra Village – Chapter 1

Perspective: Samio
Location: In the tundra village.
Date / Weather: December – Winter – 0.8° – 16:00

Chapter 1.1 – A story about reindeers.
– In this chapter: We meet Samio, we watch him fail to catch a reindeer.

Why does he want to catch a reindeer?
– Why it’s important: Rite of Passage that signifies growing up.
– Why he wants to do it: Affection for the girl he likes.

1.01 – Attempts to catch a reindeer, he is running after them.
1.02 – The lasso misses, failing to catch any. We can see all the reindeer running away.
1.03 – Samio is frustrated, he walks past Nora, who is petting her reindeer.
1.04 – Enters Noaide’s tent. He seeks guidance from Noaide.
1.05 – Conversation between Samio and Noaide:
Noaide: “What is it you seek my child?”
Samio: “I wish to catch a mighty reindeer.”
1.06 – Noaide beats his drum to the fire.
Noaide: “The spirits have spoken to me. You must seek the spirits of the forest.”
1.07 – Samio sets out for adventure. Packs his bag and brings his dog Sarek with him.
1.08 – After walking a while. He decides to rest near a seide (spiritual rock)

1.09 – Night has fallen, Samio is almost asleep. Sarek is running around. An uneasy feeling in the air.
Sarek is growling towards the forest, Samio opens his eyes.
1.10 – An unknown spirit appears out of the mist.
1.11 – Conversation between Samio and Stallo (the unknown spirit) ->
Stallo: “Don’t look so shocked. It’s only me.”
Samio: “And who may you be?”
1.12 ->
Stallo: “Just a friendly spirit who is stopping by to greet you. I hope I didn’t wake you up.”
1.13 ->
Stallo: “My name is Stallo.”
Samio: “I’ve heard of you!”
1.14 ->
Samio: “You’re not a friendly spirit. You’re a demon. Your army has slaughtered thousands of my kind!”
1.15 ->
Stallo: “Did I now? I don’t remember.”
Samio: “What do you want!?”
1.16 ->
Stallo: “Though it pains me to admit it. It would appear I have been banished from the spirit world on account of my previous record. I intend to go back but to do that, I may need some assistant.”
1.17 ->
Samio: “So basically… You want me to help you?”
Stallo: “Indeed, smart boy you are. No wonder your father was so proud of you. However, that’s not the only reason I came to you.”
1.18 ->
Stallo: “I’ve been watching you for some time now. And I must say, you have incredible potential. It makes me wonder why you’d even go through all these lengths to win that lady’s heart.”
1.19 ->
Samio: “How did you -?”
Stallo: “I told you. I’ve been watching you. And considering you haven’t made any progress at your end, maybe I could help you. Perhaps we could help each other.”
1.20 ->
Samio: “No.”
Stallo: “You should know that I don’t take no for an answer.”
1.21 ->
Samio: “And you should know that I’m not interested in accepting or even offering help to a demon.”
1.22 – Stallo starts attacking Samio. Punch partially blocked by Sarek. Powerful punch throws Samio and Sarek a few meters away.
1.23 – Samio recovers and quickly draws out his skinning knife. It appears he is able to slice through Stallo’s leg.
1.24 – Zoom out and it seems Stallo has taken no damage.
1.25 – The fear of losing makes Samio recall an earlier memory.
1.26 – Memory sequence ->
– When Samio was just a kid –
– His father (Vulkin) took him dear hunting –
1.27 ->
– After failing to catch a deer, Samio was pinned to the ground –
– He felt so helpless –
1.28 ->
– That’s when Vulkin stepped in and sliced the deer’s head off –
1.29 ->
Vulkin: “Are you alright son?”
– Vulkin pulls Samio off the ground –
1.30 ->
Vulkin: “Remember, a good diversion is key. When your prey is distracted, you can take it down easily.”
1.31 -> Memory sequence blending back
Vulkin: “And if you go for the head, you stop it before the deer makes a move.”
1.32 – As Stallo attempts to do another attack. Samio whistled to signal Sarek to attack first.
1.33 – Sarek launches at Stallo’s leg. And while he is distracted Samio strikes his skinning knife in Stallo’s neck.
1.34 – Stallo screams in agony while taking a few steps back.
Stallo: “You’ll pay for this. I swear it. I will make you regret this.”
1.35 – Stallo turns into his spirit form and vanishes.
1.36 – End of the fight.
Samio: “That was a hard fight!”
Samio turns to praise Sarek, he gasped as he saw Sarek’s figure lying on the ground motionlessly.
1.37 ->
Samio: “Don’t tell me …”
Samio: “You got hurt protecting me, didn’t you? When that damn demon first tried to attack me.”
1.38 – Sarek pouted lightly. Tears fell from Samio’s eyes, so he shut them.
As the tears fell on Sarek’s wounds he starts to glow, Samio’s eyes were forced open.
1.39 – Only to find a dog-like spirit standing in front of him. Its features and size resembled Sarek itself. It was his spirit form. The green flames igniting from the spirit took a moment to bow his head to Samio. As if to thank him.
1.40 – And with that. Sarek ran into the night sky, until he was no longer in Samio’s vision.
1.41 – Samio was all alone now. On the very same rock he has just attempted to rest on. Heartbroken, he decided to go back to the village.
1.42 – After walking for a while. As the snowstorm cleared his vision and revealed the condition of his village. Everything was on fire.
1.43 – The village was targeted by Stallo’s army. Samio froze in fear until he heard a scream from the village.
He knew the voice too well. That’s when he saw it.
1.44 – Samio starts running towards Stallo.
But as previously, he vanished. He was gone.
1.45 – Samio collapsed to his knees in anger, while crying in despair! He had truly lost everything now.
1.46 – His eyes searched the area only to focus themselves on Noaide. If anyone knows Stallo’s intentions or whereabouts, it had to be him, right?
1.47 – Samio conversation with Noaide ->
Samio: “Is there a way for me to – ”
Noaide: “No!”
1.48 ->
Samio: “I didn’t even say anything yet”
Noaide: “I know what you’re going to ask. You can’t save her. And you definitively can’t go into the Spirit World.”
1.49 – Samio felt his whole world coming down. He walked back to his tent.
1.50 – Exhausted from the day and the pain, he shut his eyes to end his vision of this cruel world.

Chapter 1.2 -.
– Nora has been kidnapped.

2.01 – Samio is in his bed thinking about everything that happened to him.
2.02 – He then realizes, he must have been betrayed.
2.03 – Samio stands up and walks through the ruined village and notices Noaide’s tent is completely untouched.
2.04 – He walks up to the tent and meets Noaide.
Noaide: “Back so soon?”
2.05 – Samio grabs Noaide’s shoulders
Samio: “I want answers.”
Noaide: “I already told you that you can’t go to…”
Samio: “Not that.”
2.06 ->
Samio: “Tell me why you did it, why did you help Stallo?”
Noaide: “What makes you think that I helpe-?”
2.07 ->
Samio: “Don’t even try to play the innocent victim here, you made a deal with Stallo, didn’t you?”
Samio: “You helped him escape to the spirit world, and he gave you something in return?”
2.08 ->
Samio: “And now, thanks to you, she’s gone!”
Samio: “He has her now, and I can’t save her because of you!”
2.09 ->
Noaide: “How did you come to that conclusion?”
Samio: “Because you have been the one controlling this situation from the very beginning.”
2.10 ->
Samio: “You said you sent me out on a journey to find the spirits, but sent me there because of your deal with Stallo”
Samio: “So that damn demon could use me.”
2.11 ->
Samio: “After that, you helped him get back to the spirit world with her.”
Samio: “What I don’t understand is why?”
2.12 ->
Noaide laughs: “That’s right!”
Noaide: “I am responsible for helping that demon. And for the construction caused by his minions.”
2.13 ->
Noaide: “You see, couple of months ago I lost my ability to communicate with the spirit world.”
Noaide: “My purpose for being, suddenly gone.”
2.14 ->
Noaide: “You must see it from my perspecti-”
Samio: “I can never forgive you for what you’ve done.”
Noaide: “As if I care.”
2.15 – Samio pulls out his skinning knife. Noaide draws his knife as well.
2.16 – First strike, metal is clinging, sparks flying.
2.17 – Noaide attempts a full strike, which Samio easily dodges.
2.18 – Samio penetrated the chest of Noaide with his knife. Noaide coughed up blood.
2.19 – Noaide fell to the ground, he was breathing heavily while holding over his chest.
2.20 – Noaide gripped a chairs leg, and was able to lean up against the chair for stability.
2.21 – Conversation between Noaide and Samio ->
Noaide: “I hope you know, killing me won’t solve anything.”
Noaide: “That girl is still gone forever, unless you…”
2.22 ->
Samio: “You know of a way to save her?”
Noaide: “You don’t trust me? I don’t blame you.”
2.23 ->
Noaide: “I wouldn’t trust myself either, but wouldn’t you know what I have to say anyway?”
Samio: (No response)
2.24 ->
Noaide: “What reason would a dying man have to lie?”
Samio: “Why do I feel like there is a catch to whatever you’re about to say.”
2.25 ->
Noaide: “That’s for you to decide.”
As he gasped for air, he tighten some cloth around his chest to stop the bleeding.
Noaide: “It’s true. You can’t travel to the spirit world. But that’s not because of something I am doing.”
2.26 ->
Noaide: “It’s because of the Crown Gem.”
Samio: “Crown gem?”
2.27 ->
Noaide: “An object made by the people of Lyng.”
Noaide: “It can sever the connection between the mortal and spirit world by harvesting the northern lights.”
2.28 ->
Noaide: “Until it’s destroyed, one can’t travel between these realms.”
Samio: “Sounds like this crown gem is taking you out of business.”
Noaide laughed then grabbed his bloodied chest.
2.29 – Noaide’s face got a serious expression as he collapsed on the ground.
2.29 ->
Samio: “Where is this crown gem?”
No answer.
2.30 – Samio confirmed that Noaide was dead.
2.31 – Samio left the tent as he was thinking to himself.
– Was he being tricked by Noaide? Where could the gem be? Would he be able to break it?
2.32 – Just like earlier, Samio started packing his bag. He had a new mission.
2.33 – As he is packing, Miija enters the Tent.
Miija: “Have you seen the destruction outside? Where are you headed?”
Samio: “Nora has been kidnapped by a demon and I have to rescue her.”
2.34 ->
Miija: “Wait, what? Do you even know where she is?”
Samio: “I believe she is in the spirit world somewhere.”
Miija: “You should talk to Noaide, he might be able to-”
2.35 ->
Samio: “He’s dead. I had to kill him, he was working with the demon.”
Miija: “What!?”
Samio: “I am heading to Lyng, there is an object I must retrieve.”
2.36 ->
Miija: “In Lyng? Samio, you’ve never been outside the this village before, do you even know where that is?”
Miija: “And you don’t have a reindeer, how will you get there?”
2.37 -> Miija sighs as she took out a map from her pocket.
Miija: “This is the fastest way, you’ll have to take your skis.”
Samio: “Thank you. Can I keep this?”
Miija: “Only if you promise to bring it back.”
2.38 – Samio grabs the map, his wooden skis and runs out of the tent.
2.39 – Can see Samio skiing down a hill.
2.40 – In the distance you can see a man stuck in the snow panicking.
2.41 – Samio skis towards him.
Samio: “Hey! Are you alright?”
Kairow shakes his head.
2.42 – Samio takes out his lasso from his backpack.
Samio: “Hold on, I got you.”
2.43 – Samio throws the lasso to him and pulls him out of the snow.
Kairow: “I thought I would be stuck here all night.”
Samio: “No problem, where are you headed?”
2.44 ->
Kairow: “I don’t really know. Anywhere I guess.”
Kairow: “Guess you can call this my first adventure.”
2.45 ->
Samio: “What a coincidence, it’s the first time I left my village as well.”
Kairow: “Is that right? Where are you from?”
2.46 ->
Samio: “I am from a small village in the north. It’s called the Tundra village.”
Kairow: “Tundra village? Have you seen any artifacts there?”
2.47 ->
Samio: “What? Not that I know of.”
Kairow: “You see, I have been sent out on a mission from Kappla to collect artifacts.
2.48 -> Kairow points at the ground, as he continues to sink down.
Kairow: “Like those things under you feet, how do they work?”
Samio: “My skis?”
2.44 ->
Kairow: “Skis! Yes, that’s the kind of things I need to bring back to my people.”
Kairow: “This artifact grants the ability to glide on snow.”
Kairow: “Can I get them from you?”
2.45 ->
Samio: “No, I need them to travel to Lyng. I am on a mission of my own.”
Kairow: “What if I travel with you to Lyng, and you no longer need them?”
2.46 ->
Samio: “I would still need them to get back, but I can show you how my people make them after I am done.”
Kairow: “Yes, that works for me.”
2.47 -> Kairow is almost stuck in the snow again.
Samio: “Right, if you’re going to join me, we have to deal with this snow situation.”
2.48 – Samio takes off his skis and proceeds to breaks them in two.
2.49 – He then grabs the lasso he used to save Kairow earlier, and makes makeshift snowshoes.
2.50 – Samio hands them to Kairow, then they walk together in the distance.
